Before I started trying to change my diet, a lot of what I ate was chicken. I used to have southern fried chicken steaks at least once a week. I like it, so why not?! So finding an alternative is a really good thing. A friend recommended Quorn Southern Fried Bites, so let’s give them a review.
Before I go on, here’s a quick recap about me and my old eating habits. Before the 2nd week in January 2020, I was predominantly a meat eater. And not good meats, most of it was processed. In fact, the only vegetables I ate were raw carrots and potatoes in a variety of forms. It was a terrible diet, and a scare has forced me to try and change. You can read more about it here. But TL;DR, I’m very fussy, so am looking for genuine meat free alternatives. I decided to write reviews of my findings just in case there’s anyone who wants to try this stuff, but are unsure.
Quorn Southern Fired Bites – Review Time
Quorn Southern Fried Bites are quite simply delicious. I honestly couldn’t tell the difference between them and actual southern fried chicken nuggets. The taste has everything that you’d expect from southern fried chicken. If you’re wanting to try a meat free alternative, then you really can’t go wrong with these. I just wish Quorn would sell this product as a steak, as well as the nuggets.
At the end of the day, this is still processed food. But, how does it stack up to the southern fried chicken steaks I was having before?

I’m no nutrition expert, but I guess if you loose quantities from one area, it has to move to another. So the reduced fat may be what’s manifested as carbs. Maybe I should do a nutrition course to try and understand what’s happening here. But I see less saturates and more fibre, which is good. A bit more protein would be nice, as since going on this diet, I know I’m not getting as much as on a meat diet.
